Transfer Pathways
As of Spring 2025, the College made the following changes to the 2+2 Transfer Pathway Guides and process:
- The 2+2 Transfer Pathway Programs have been removed from the MCC admissions application.
- The term “2+2” will be phased out and replaced with “Transfer Pathways.”
- Most 2+2s will no longer be considered “programs” but will instead be advising guides called Transfer Pathways. The MCC 2+2 codes will be phased out, except for those in a Competitive Transfer Pathway.
What is a Competitive Transfer Pathway?
- Some guides with RIT, St. John Fisher, and the University of Rochester are designated as “Competitive Transfer Pathways.” These offer more of an admissions guarantee with the 4-year institution and/or a shortened admissions application.
- They have specific entrance requirements and will retain the MCC 2+2 coding.
- These programs may have limited seats for transfer students at the 4-year institution, require cross-registration, and/or need specialized advising for a smooth transfer.
- Program changes into a Competitive Transfer Pathway will be made through the online Program Change process.
Competitive Programs include: All U of R guides, Nursing at St. John Fisher, and the following majors at RIT: Engineering Science (computer, electrical, industrial, mechanical, & microelectronic), Computer Science, Packaging Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Imaging Science, Nutritional Sciences. Students interested in a Competitive Transfer Pathway must complete an MCC program change request and meet specific entrance requirements to be formally accepted.
For those accepted (as indicated by their MCC major): continuous, full-time enrollment (12 or more credit hours each semester) is required. Student contact information will be shared with the 4-year institution. Students will need to complete a transfer application, typically done prior to the start of their last semester at MCC. Please note that students are accepted into the Competitive Transfer Pathway only if their MAJOR indicates this code. If only the PATHWAY indicates the 2+2 code, they are not officially in the Competitive Transfer Pathway.
If not accepted into the MCC Competitive Transfer Pathway, students can still follow this advising guide and apply to the transfer university.
All Transfer Pathways are unique advising guides tailored for specific majors at specified colleges. A suggested GPA for transfer is included. Students still need to apply to the 4-year college as they are finishing up at MCC. The transfer guides are often different than Degree Works. Sometimes there can be financial aid implications that need to be addressed. You can find a link to the transfer guides on a student’s Degree Works; look under “Links.”
Bachelor degree completion may take longer than four years depending on prerequisite courses needed, course sequencing, and/or curriculum of the 4-year program. The transfer guides should be regularly reviewed along with a student’s Degree Works Worksheet.
Some guides are listed as “2+3” because they are 5-year programs (at RIT, for example).
It is acceptable to take longer than two years at MCC to complete needed coursework.
Please note that while every effort is made to ensure the information in these guides is accurate, students are advised to contact the transfer institution to make sure the curriculum has not changed.
Questions should be directed to Rebecca Mack in the Career Services office at MCC.
