Advisement Keys

Advisement keys are assigned to students in order to enforce that they receive advisement prior to registration. The intention of an advisement key is to promote intrusive advising that involves proactive interactions between students and assigned advisors with the goal of developing a caring and beneficial 1:1 relationship. If students have an advisement key, they must receive the key (a numerical code) from their advisor. Students will be prompted to enter the key in Self-Service Banner in order to register.

The Degree Works header will indicate if the student requires a key.  “Advisement Key Yes” will be displayed.

Advisement keys for Spring 2023 are now placed on student records.  The following populations will require an advisement ke

  1. Undeclared – LA01 students (LA01 appears at the major level in Banner)
  2. Students with a GPA below 2.0
  3.  All students with a LAS pathway (LAS1-LAS7 code appears at Pathway level in Banner)

An advisement key should never be given out to students in the CL_ _/DA_ _/DH_ _/NU_ _/RA_ _/SG_ _ .  Please refer students directly to their assigned advisor for assistance with advisement and registration.

All other students with an advisement key should be given the numerical code after an advisement session.

To find an advisement key in Self-Service Banner, go to Faculty Services, Student Information Menu, View Advisement Key.  Make sure you are in the Spring 2024 term.
