Applied Integrated Technology (AAS)

Computer Science (A.S.)

Major Note to Advisors

The Computer Science Pathway is recommended for students entering with Math Level 8 or above, as the Introductory Programming classes typically have a Math level 10 pre-requisite. If an incoming student is between Math Level 1-6, the student may be more successful and more timely in selecting the Information and Networking Technology (IN01) program, as the program only requires MTH 140/165 to be completed math-wise. The Computer Science program, in contrast, requires MTH 210,211,220, and *MTH160, so many more “bridge” math courses would need to be completed, affecting the number of semesters required to successfully graduate.

Physical requirements

  • Students will be required to work with a variety of hand tools including: Screwdrivers, wrenches, nut drivers, wire cutters, saws and hammers.
  • Students will also work with torches, gas fired equipment, pressurized systems, and electrical meters measuring voltage and amperage on energized equipment.
  • Students will use various gages to measure pressure and work with refrigerants under pressure.
  • Students will have to kneel on the floor and crouch to see into equipment and measure operating values of equipment.
  • Students will have to lift and move heavy objects in excess of 25 pounds or more.
  • Students may be required to work off of ladders occasionally.

Off-campus requirements

  • The welding class HVA 285 is located on 115 Fed Ex Rd. in the town of Gates adjacent to Manitou Rd. and Route 531.

Multiple campus location requirements

  • All HVAC/R classes with the exception of HVA 285 are located within the Applied Technologies Center. Each class meets once a week for the specified amount of time. Some math, physics and other general education requirements for the HVAC/R degree will require attending class at the Brighton or Downtown Campus.

Career Considerations

  • Strong background in basic mathematics and physics involving heat transfer and fluid mechanics is a plus.
  • Must be able to work well in team settings and individually as well.
  • Must have strong self-management and organizational skills.

Major Note to Advisors and Students

The Information Technology Program is intended for students entering with Math Level 8 or above. If an incoming student is between Math Level 1-6, the student may be more successful and more timely for graduation in selecting the Information and Networking Technology (IN01) program instead, as it only requires MTH 140/165 to be completed math-wise. This Information Technology (IT01) program, in contrast, requires MTH 172 (Level 9) and MTH 160 (Level 7) to graduate.
